  • I want to thank you for bringing peace-of-mind to me in achieving a refinance of my home. After a discouraging and often frustrating experience of trying to get a home modification through a third party representative, and upon learning that I had some equity in my home, I was impressed at how quickly you completed a refinance. Completing the whole process in three weeks was a stark contrast to the minimum of 60days that the larger banks say it will take.

Mortgage Modification Scams and What You Need to Know

In 2009, nearly one in six homeowners defaulted on their home mortgage, and it draws a sad picture of the number of families in America that need to stabilize their financial situation.  While it is important that you find the right professional to assist you in answering your questions about doing a mortgage modification, it is also important that you are able to detect anyone who isn’t an expert and may be preying on you and your family.

Doing a mortgage modification may be the best option for you and your family, but the truth is only a small, select group of people qualify for this modification.  In order for the modification to work, you would have to be so close to being able to make the payments you have now.  One way the banks do this, is to lower your interest rate to make it feasible for you to make that mortgage payment.

There are some “foreclosure rescue operations” that started cropping up everywhere in order to prey on desperate homeowners.  They would introduce the idea of doing a mortgage modification, and then never produce the results.  These people wouldn’t contact your lender, nor would they even show up in the court room.  So, when it comes down to it these people are just available to take your money.

The truth behind the housing market crisis is this; homeowners are so far behind on their payments they may not be able to make payments during that trial period.  When this becomes an issue, those mortgage modifications are not approved.  Because of the stress that these homeowners face and having nothing to hope for in the future, they take hold of criminal hands in the hope to save their home for their family.

Thankfully, the Obama administration has brought called attention to the mortgage modification programs out there today, as an alternative to foreclosure.  The key with the program is knowing as to whether or not you think you qualify for the mortgage modification program. When there isn’t much debt outside of the mortgage, this can help you in the mortgage modification process, because you are more likely to hit that debt target that they are looking for in order to keep your payments down.

The government stepped in and was able to help the homeowner by establishing HAMP, the Homeowners Affordable Modification Program.  This would trigger lenders to offer options on avoiding foreclosure.  Unfortunately, the homeowners were not the only ones who were able to benefit from these incentives.  Con artists began cropping up everywhere, and are possibly still actively working on families as we speak.

As always, you need an expert to help you get through the process and answer those tough questions for you.  It is best to work with an expert who has some knowledge of these programs and what is happening in the industry.  For more information, you can go to www.inlandempireshortsaleresource.com.
